about
The Masquerade Theatre was Founded by actor and creative Lizzy Booth in 2022. In 2022, Lizzy was inspired by the Virtual Theatre scene that arose during the pandemic to build a theatre troupe, which would offer Virtual Productions via Zoom. That summer, Lizzy directed and produced The Masquerade Theatre’s first show: a “Masq’d Staged Reading.” The first Masq’d Staged Reading was Much Ado About Nothing: A Virtual Performance, followed the next summer by Twelfth Night: A Virtual Performance.
the Start
The shift to live theater
Lizzy’s love for Shakespeare lit a major fire behind her love for acting and the stage from the time she was eight years old, when she first had the opportunity to act in a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Once she started building theatre online and sharing her love of shakespeare with other artistic collaborators, she knew that this spark needed to grow into a flame. In 2024, The masquerade Theatre produced their first live shakespearean show off-off broadway at the Court square theater.
The work today
Ever since that first live production, the masquerade theatre has continued to produce and celebrate the works of shakespeare as well as original works, written by talented local playwrights. we are passionate about making classical works accessible and giving artists in our communities platforms to share their voices.
